Crafty creatives – Oh Someday

Kate Holden, the designer behind Oh Someday jewellery, shares her inspiration...

Tell us about your creative outlet:

I started making jewellery a few years ago because I found that I couldn’t find affordable, handmade jewellery in designs that I liked and I didn’t want to wear mass-produced pieces that didn’t mean anything to me. The jewellery I make is heavily influenced by music, nature and the people around me.

All the jewellery I sell has been designed and made by me in my little shed in the South East of England. I try to use materials that are produced in the UK and the stones I use are responsibly sourced. I also only work with hand tools to be as environmentally friendly as possible and because I feel that creating jewellery by hand makes every piece that little bit more unique.

Why should people check out your work?

It’s quirky, original, hand-made jewellery that anyone can wear. Every piece is customisable so you can create a unique and personal piece at an affordable price.

Where do you show and sell your creations?

I sell my jewellery at Green Brick at the back of The Fair Shop on Queen’s Road Brighton, Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth, online at The Little Deer and it will soon be available at Life Story in Edinburgh. All of my jewellery is also available online on my Etsy shop http://www.ohsomeday.etsy.com

What personal piece are you most proud of?

I always feel proud when I make commissions for people and they tell me how happy they are with the item or how much the person they gave it to loved it. I love hearing people’s stories for why they want the piece of jewellery and finding out the words and phrases that people choose to have on each piece.

Do you collect anything?

I have accidentally accumulated a collection of vintage wooden boxes and I also collect quirky vintage ornaments –  my favourite is a pair of wooden bears with crazy green crystal eyes.

Do you have a website?

At the moment I only have my Etsy shop http://www.ohsomeday.etsy.com but I’m planning to have my own website in the not so distant future.
